Magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) and Electromagnetic Processing of Materials

Coventry University

Group leader: Prof. Sergei Molokov

Ph.D. Students: Lee Braiden, Gerasimos Politis

Recent Ph.D. Completions: Agnieszka Hudoba

This research group focuses on optimising the control of heating, cooling and flow properties of conductive fluids, especially liquid metals – the work combines applications of engineering science, physics and mathematics. Expertise includes instabilities and turbulence in MHD flows, Flows in rotating, alternating, and travelling magnetic fields and magneto-thermo-elasticity.

Research themes include:

  • Aluminium smelting
  • Fusion Reactor Blankets and Divertors
  • Semiconductor Crystal Growth
  • Steel casting
  • Fuses, Exploding wires
