Coventry University invites applications for a 3.5-year PhD Industrial CASE studentship in Applied Mathematics (Fluid Dynamics). The studentship is co-funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council and Culham Centre for Fusion Energy (http:\/\/www.ccfe.ac.uk\/). The work, to be performed in collaboration with Culham and with Ilmenau University of Technology (Germany, http:\/\/www.tu-ilmenau.de\/tfd\/ ), involves Direct Numerical Simulation of turbulent flow in rectangular ducts in the presence of a strong magnetic field with reference to liquid metal blankets for fusion reactors.<\/p>\n
Candidates must be EU nationals holding a BSc degree in Mathematics, Physics or a related discipline (or those who will have obtained the degree by September 2012). Exceptional overseas students are also encouraged to apply.<\/p>\n
The maintenance grant is \u00a313,260 p.a. tax free. The starting date must be not later than the end of September, 2012.<\/p>\n
