This event corresponds to the twentieth anniversary of the first pamir conference, which was organised in 1991 at the Cadartache castle in close collaboration with the CEA (French atomic centre). It is one of the reasons why the new pamir conference will be also organised in the frame of a close collaboration between the CNRS and the CEA and will benefit also of the participation of the University of Latvia and of Reims. For this reason also the topic of the conference have been enlarged to take into account the recent development of the energy program, ITER, new fast neutron reactor involved important progress in the liquid metal technology. The structure of this new conference will be the same than the previous ones, accommodation and conference centre will be located in the same place, and the communications will be divided in two equivalent parts orals and posters. The proceeding books will be available at the opening day of the conference and about 1/3 of the papers will be published in international reviews. A program for accompanying persons will be established. All the other information will be available soon, by the way of the conference announcement and by the web site of the conference that will be realised by our Latvian colleagues. For the PhD positions we are looking for students with profound knowledge of fluid mechanics and excellent experimental skills. Prior knowledge of liquid metal MHD is welcome but not required. The first PhD position (refer to Reg.-No. 14-2010) will focus on various liquid metal experiments with geophysical and astrophysical background, including experiments on the Magnetorotational instability and on the Tayler instability. The second PhD position (refer to Reg. No. 35-2009) will focus on the experimental investigation of liquid metal gas bubble two-phase flows, including the further development of related measurement techniques. Both positions are funded by Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft. The initial appointment will be for 3 years, with possible prolongation. The salary will be in the range of Euro 25000 – Euro 29000 per annum according to German public service scale. The full scientist position belongs to the DRESDYN project at FZD (Dresden sodium facility for Dynamo and thermohydraulic studies). A part of it consists in the design and realization of a precession driven dynamo experiment. The position is devoted to perform water pre-experiments and to participate in the design of the precession experiment. Experiences in at least one of the following fields are necessary: ultrasonic flow measurements, experiments with liquid sodium, precession driven flows, or dynamo experiments. The initial appointment will be for 3 years. A prolongation will be possible as DRESDYN is scheduled, at least, until 2016. The salary will be in the range of Euro 40000 – Euro 45000 per annum according to German public service scale. All positions shall be decided soon. The starting dates can be agreed upon individually. Candidates should be enthusiastic and outstanding researchers with a proven teaching ability or teaching potential and excellent communication skills. Applicants should have research interests in astrophysical fluid dynamics, especially related to galaxies, their evolution and formation. Candidates with expertise in quantum fluids, especially in application to neutron stars, will also be favourably considered.
