I - 7th INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ELECTROMAGNETIC PROCESSING OF MATERIALS (EPM2012)

The 7th International Conference on Electromagnetic Processing of Materials (EPM2012) will be held on October 22-26, 2012 in Beijing, China.

The conference welcomes paper submissions for oral and poster presentations. New and original researches not previously published are favoured. The abstract should be written in English with a maximum of 400 words, and submitted through this website before November 30, 2011. Full manuscript submissions should be made before April 30, 2012.

II - 2 PHD POSITIONS AT MHD DEPARTMENT OF HELMHOLTZ-ZENTRUM DRESDEN-ROSSENDORF (HZDR)

HZDR invites applications for 2 PhD positions at the Department of Magnetohydrodynamics. For  both positions we are looking for students with excellent experimental skills and first experiences in the fields of fluid mechanics or flow measurements. Prior knowledge of liquid metal MHD is welcome but not required. The salary of each position will be in the range of 35000-40000 Euro per annum according to German public service scale.
The first PhD position is devoted to perform water pre-experiments at a medium-size precession experiment and to participate in the design of a large-scale precession dynamo experiment with liquid sodium. Prior knowledge of ultrasonic flow measurements, liquid sodium experiments, or precession driven flows is welcome but not required.
The second PhD position will deal with the development of Liquid Metal Batteries consisting of a self-assembled layered structure of two liquid metal electrodes separated by a liquid electrolyte. Various small-scale material tests will be followed by the construction of a related test cell. A main research focus will be on possible flow instabilities in this cell, such as the interfacial instability well-known from aluminium reduction cells and the Tayler instability.
