The new pamir conference will be organized in Latvia from June 16 to June 20, 2014. The conference will take place in Riga and will benefit of the host of the University of Latvia. In addition with the topics about MHD and liquid metal technology, two new topics will be included concerning

  • Themo acoustics
  • Space: stress on technologies

In parallel with the conference a summer school will be proposed and organized in the French Institute of Latvia. Some of the students could benefit from financial support of the European commission.

More information about the both organizations of the conference and summer school could be found on the web site of the conference.

The Insitute of Thermodynamics and Fluid Mechanics, Ilmenau University of Technology is proud to announce 7th European Postgraduate Fluid Dynamics Conference which will be held at Ilmenau University of technology, 14-17 July, 2014

“Aimed towards PhD students
organized by PhD students”Conference follows the spirit of the conference series, which is addressed to doctorial students from Europe working in the field of fluid mechanics. The participants will get a chance to present their research topic and results in an ambience of equals.

Bad Honnef, October 15-18, 2013.

Registration via www.tu-ilmenau.de/mhd/registration by August 31, 2013

The seminar is intended to bring together scientists with experience or collaborations in the field of experimental and theoretical magnetohydrodynamics, with a strong focus on works related to liquid metals. In particular, the seminar is divided into three overall topics:

The first two days are dedicated to rather fundamental aspects of MHD, namely geophysical MHD and MHD turbulence. The third day is devoted to applied MHD.

The program consists of 12 invited overview talks. After each talk is plenty of time for discussions. In addition, there will be a session dedicated to short presentations of young scientists and a poster session. Therefore, we particularly encourage young scientists to apply for the seminar.

The number of participants is limited. Accommodation and meals will be provided in the Physikzentrum Bad Honnef for all participants free of charge thanks to the generous funding by the Wilhelm und Else Heraeus Foundation.

More information on the seminar can be found on www.tu-ilmenau.de/mhd

Hoping to see you at the seminar,

Christiane Heinicke, Thomas Wondrak, Gunter Gerbeth, André Thess

(from Sergey Smolentsev, USA)

The Fusion Science and Technology Center at University of California, Los Angeles invites applicants for a research position in Experimental MHD / Heat & Mass transfer. The studies are related to liquid metal MHD flows in closed ducts in conditions relevant to a fusion reactor blanket. Successful candidates are expected to have experience/background in the area of experimental fluid dynamics/heat & mass transfer. Experience in experimental studies of liquid metals (PbLi, InGaSn, NaK, Hg), especially in the presence of a strong magnetic field, and working knowledge of liquid-metal flow diagnostics, such as ultrasound velocimetry and potential probes, is desirable. Considerations will be given to both recent university graduators (Ph.D. is required) and senior scientists with a multi-year experience in the field.

The position is available starting from September 01, 2013. Applications or questions about the position should be sent to Sergey Smolentsev (sergey(at)fusion.ucla.edu) and copy to Mohamed Abdou (abdou(at)fusion.ucla.edu).
