29-06-2017: INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON MAGNETOHYDRODYNAMIC FLOWS IN MODERATE AND HIGH MAGNETIC FIELDS

(from S Molokov, Coventry, UK)

The workshop will take place at Coventry University (UK) on 29-30 June, 2017. One of the aims of the workshop is to encourage collaboration by scientists from different fields. There will be three sessions:

  1. Liquid Metal and Industrial MHD (organiser Prof Sergei Molokov, Coventry University, s.molokov@coventry.ac.uk)
  2. Geo- and Astro- Physics (organiser Prof David W Hughes, University of Leeds, D.W.Hughes@leeds.ac.uk)
  3. Magnetoelectrochemistry (organiser Dr Andrew Cobley, Coventry University, aa2266@coventry.ac.uk)

There will be a fee, which will cover the cost of two dinners. One of the dinners, on Friday, 30th will be the Medieval Banquet at the historical Coombe Abbey hotel (http://www.coombeabbey.com/mediaeval-banquets/) with performance by actors.

The second announcement, website address, and call for papers will appear in January, 2017. If you would like to get more information before then, please contact either organisers of the sessions, or the local organising team:

Local Organising committee:

  • Dr. Alex Pedcenko (a.pedcenko@coventry.ac.uk)
  • Dr. Svetlana Aleksandrova (s.aleksandrova@coventry.ac.uk)
  • Prof. Sergei Molokov (s.molokov@coventry.ac.uk)

11-07-2017: MHD Mini-symposium at the BIFD-2017

There will be a session (or severals sessions) focused on MHD-related topics at the 7th International Symposium on Instabilities and Bifurcations in Fluid Dynamics (BIFD-2017), which will take place on July 11-14 2017 at the Woodlands Convention Center (a suburb of Houston, TX). The deadline for abstract submission is February 1, 2017. For further details please see http://www.shsu.edu/bifd2017. The MHD community has always been strongly represented at the BIFD conferences, the tradition the organizers hope to maintain. Presentations concerning all sub-fields of MHD (liquid metal, plasma, industrial and astro- and geophysical applications, etc) are welcomed.

17th MHD Days 2016

Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research

Nov 30 – Dec 2, 2016, Göttingen, Germany

https://mhd2016.sciencesconf.org/

————————————————————–

Scope and Goals

We are happy to invite you to participate in the 17th MHD Days hosted by the Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research in Göttingen. As in previous years, the meeting aims at bringing together researchers working on general issues of magnetohydrodynamics, plasma physics, and related experiments.

Theoretical, numerical, and observational results from the above-mentioned fields all belong to the scope of the meeting.

Important dates

15th of August: Registration and abstract submission opens

18th of October: Last day for special hotel reservation

1st of November: Abstract deadline

16th of November: Registration deadline

30th of November: Start of the meeting

Registration

A registration form and an abstract submission form will be available from the 15th of August on the website

https://mhd2016.sciencesconf.org

A registration fee of maximum 100 EUR will be collected to cover some expenses during the meeting, i.e., lunches, coffee, and conference dinner.

Schedule

We plan to start the meeting in the morning of Wednesday, November 30, and to finish on Friday, December 2, around noon. At the beginning of each day, there will be keynote talks on the solar dynamo, the role of turbulent effects in dynamo action, and global models of turbulent magneto-convection, followed by contributed talks. We also plan to reserve time to exchange as many news as possible. A detailed program will follow and be published on the website.

Keynote speakers: Maarit J. Käpylä, Karl-Heinz Rädler, Manfred Schüssler

Looking forward to seeing you in Göttingen!
